Disabled Dog Gets Company From His New Guinea Pig Best Friend
It seems that an unlikely friendship has once again sprouted among our animal friends, and this time it’s a dog and guinea pig duo!
Rex, the elderly and disabled boxer puppy has managed to make a new best friend in Smores, the cute little guinea pig. Wherever Rex wanders off to, Smores follows close behind or even jumps onto his pouch on Rex’s wheelchair.
According to Holly Walthers, the pets’ owner, Rex uses a wheelchair for support because he suffers from degenerative myelopathy, which is a spinal cord disorder that causes him to slowly become paralyzed starting from the rear part of his body. And not only this, but Rex was also said to have been depressed, as a fellow Boxer puppy recently passed away.
But luckily, little Smores always seems to be ready to hitch a ride as he accompanies Rex and cheers him up. Awww!
Walthers even recalls that whenever she takes Rex out for a walk, she’ll also tuck Smores into a little pouch attached to the wheelchair. “She’s never once tried to jump out [during their walks]. She can get out if she wants, but she never does.”
Afterwards, Smores will jump out of the pouch on her own and let herself back into her own cage.
After these sessions, the pair was said to have become inseparable, now eating and napping together in addition to taking walks.
