This Is Our Solar System Built To Scale Across Seven Miles Of Desert

This video created by Alex Gorosh and Wylie Overstreet shows you our Solar System almost exactly to scale.

To do this, Gorosh and Overstreet travelled out to Black Rock Desert in Nevada and marked out each major planet orbiting the sun. Once everything was built to scale, they created a time-lapse by driving lights around the orbit of each planet.

The end result is a pretty accurate scale of our Solar System that takes up seven miles of desert. Have you been wondering why the area chosen was seven miles? You would think Gorosh and Overstreet could have used a smaller area, but if they went any smaller, Earth would be nearly impossible to see. In fact, in a scale of seven miles, Earth is only the size of a marble!

Check out this awesome video!
